Reno - Bikes and Bike Repair

Some of the bike shops in the area really know how to take care of Burners.  Some sell used bikes, some offer rentals, still others offer repair services or new bikes only.

Black Rock Bicycles
7550 Hillview Drive – 775-972-3336 – (Northtowne)
Call for hours. The only bike outfit in town primarily catered by and to burners. To rent a bike, please visit the website (highlighted above). However, if you wish to buy a new bike or accessories (lock, bell, lights, basket, rack) at an unbeatable price, the burners of Black Rock Bicycles are teaming up with three of the local Save Mart supermarkets to sell new bikes at the stores for the week of Burning Man. Look into the Save Mart listings in the Keystone, Plumb, and Prater hubs for hours and how to get there. You can also find Black Rock Bicycles at Prism Magic Clothing in the Pyramid hub of Sparks.

Kiwanis Bike Program
2500 Valley Road – 775-846-7146 – (Downtown)
Open 9am-9pm during Burning Man. Normally a bike program to benefit kids of all ages in-need in the community, the folks of the Kiwanis Bike Program receive large numbers of bikes left on the playa each year, and end up setting aside and taking extra special care of a bunch of bikes for the playa for burners to purchase for Burning Man at very fair prices. They also provide bike repairs.

There are exactly two ways to purchase one of the bikes from these great folks: one way is to stop during the week of Burning Man at their shop; the other way is at the Save Mart supermarket located in the Keystone shopping hub. Get em while they last!

Reno Bike Project
541 East Fourth Street – 775-323-4488 – (Downtown)
Open 9am-9pm around Burning Man time — call ahead though for possible unusual-hours appointment. A used-bike seller and community bike shop operated by many burners, this is a great place to get a bike at a great price. Get em while they last! They also repair bikes, carry lights and lighting, including ready-to-go el-wire kits by Cool Neon, baskets, racks, and bells, and will take and recycle bikes back post-Burning Man.

Rat's Bikes
Rat's Bikes has been taking care of long-distance burners with bicycle rentals for many years now.  Devoted exclusively to accomodating those of us who have to travel great distances (over 1000 miles) to make it the playa, Rat begins taking reservations in the spring of each year and is typically plumb out of bikes to rent as summer approaches. Therefore, for Burning Man 2010 he is already out of bikes. Do not bother contacting him looking for a bike to rent for Burning Man 2010.  However, we just had to list Rat's Bikes here in the place devoted to local bike outfits devoted in some measure to you, so, for 2011, be sure to set your alarm and send him an email starting May 1, 2011 — here's his email:  nv_desert_rat@nvbell.net
