Reno - Recycling, Dumps, and Greywater Disposal
Depositing waste is one of the things that we all need to be responsible about.
Moreover, it is illegal (aka litter) to leave or lose your waste — recycling, garbage, greywater — at ANY location other than at a location entirely intended to take your waste. Such as at the locations below. Not at your camp. Not in your neighbor’s camp. Not on the side of the road. Not at rest areas. Not in some dumpster behind some business.
Leave No Trace means exactly that, folks, and it helps keep Nevada beautiful.
To do otherwise not only invites prosecution by law enforcement. It means time, energy, and money for others to clean up after you. It also makes Burning Man and participants look really bad.
It’s fine not to take it all the way home with you; the locations below will be happy to take it off your hands.
And why not recycle?
Here are the locations of recycling facilities, garbage dumps, and greywater disposal stations in the region where you can properly disperse the extra baggage.
And of special note, for your convenience, some local businesses in the region have partnered together in particular support of recycling during Burning Man…
2011 Reno-Sparks-Wadsworth Recycling Project
In its fifth year, four of the Save Marts and Whole Foods in the Reno-Sparks area, and Trash Pros in Wadsworth, are providing free, no-strings-attached drive-thru recycling centers in their parking lots in support of burners recycling after Burning Man.
A free multi-community project to promote recycling, this initiative is designed exclusively for your convenience. Please have your recyclables sorted and clean as possible before depositing.
Bicycles, plastics (SPI 1,2,3,4 & 5), plastic bags, glass, all metals (aluminum, tin, lead, steel, etc), paper, cardboard, household (disposal and rechargeable) batteries, and non-perishable food and water are all welcome.
Moreover, garbage dumping will be available to recyclers at the rate of $3 per 35-gallon standard trash bag. All proceeds raised from this recycling initiative will be donated to support local Black Rock Solar installations. All food and water will be donated to local Food Banks. Bicycles will be donated to the Kiwanis and American Legion bike projects.
Most of the participating stores and all of the recycling centers will be open 24 hours from August 26 through September 7.
