JRS VOLUME #6; ISSUE #10
(REMOVE INSTRUCTIONS at the bottom of this email: If you have tried to be removed from the JRS and you're still receiving this, please take a moment make sure you've followed the remove instructions carefully. Simply replying to the JRS is the least efficient way to be removed. If you followed the instructions, and it didn't work, please forward us that information - the response message headers, etc. - so we can check into why the system hasn't processed your automated request. Oh, and if you can refrain from cursing at us when you write, you will earn karma points toward being reincarnated as a cat in your next life. Lucky you. ;) )

The AFTERBURN 2001 Report has finally been completed and is ready for your enjoyment!
Your pressing questions about Burning Man ("Where does the money go?" "What's the LLC?" "How the hell do you pull this crazy thing together?") are finally answered here - in detail. Much greater in scope than a Town Hall meeting, and more comprehensive than any reporting project we have undertaken before, this report tells it all. We have scrambled around for the past three months writing, editing, researching, gathering photos, and building this massive body of information for the web site. It's no surprise to imagine we're ecstatic about finally launching it.
Making Black Rock City has historically been the result of tens of thousands of human-hours of work, some of which are never visible to the average participant. For the first time, each department's incredible efforts are outlined and documented. Learn more about our process with the government in obtaining permits; read about how the Earth Guardians have cleaned up the Black Rock Desert beyond Burning Man's event sites; peruse photos of the DPW crew in action at the Work Ranch; understand the depth of what Community Services is; find out how the Media team wrangles reporters year-round; hear about the extranet project. All this and much more!
In 1997 we had to make the community more aware of itself if we were to develop into a civil society.
Now we're onto the next phase. We have groups that want to emulate our efforts, and to communicate this knowledge the organization has needed to become more self aware. In producing the After Burn Report we needed to examine what we do and how we do it and through this also examine our history. This report is really the beginning of a larger goal to reach out beyond our immediate event and begin to empower others to manifest events of their own.
Also, take a moment to tell us your thoughts with the Afterburn 2001 Survey. After you peruse the Afterburn report, fill us in about your experience at the event.
This report would not have come to fruition without the tireless efforts of a number of people. Check out the credits page to see who wrote and edited and marked up the many reports. A huge portion of the heavy lifting was done by volunteers. Several web team members are standout in their tireless late-night efforts! THANK YOU.
Now if you'll excuse me, we've got a bottle of champagne to uncork. (woo hoo yeehah! It's finished!!)
TICKET INFO: BURNING MAN 2002
Tickets! Tickets! Tickets!
Here' s the latest info from the Ticket Beeyotch:
For those who are writing in with your ticket and postcard woes - we are as unhappy as you are to be hearing that, almost a month after the mail date, a handful of folks don't have their postcard. This is incredible and we offer our apology to those it has effected. The delay in the mail is why we broke from protocol to send out a JRS on 1/18 with full instructions for ordering tickets for those who hadn't received the postcard yet. Important info for ticket purchases is included in the text below, so please read it carefully, and if there's a question that's not answered here, please send it to partiserv(at)burningman(dot)com (not the Jack Rabbit Speaks.)
visit for tickets and info.
As of today, the $165 level tickets are no longer available for online purchases! Tickets at $165 are still available via mail, but if you postmark past Saturday, February 9, 2002 you're tempting fate as we expect to be out in the next few days.
To purchase $165, $175, $185 or 200$ tickets by mail:
Please send your Cashier's Check or Money Order to:
P.O. Box 884688
San Francisco, CA 94188-4688
Please be sure to include your full name, mailing address, and a phone number where you can be reached with your order. We're MOST pleased when you use the downloadable mail order form from the web site. ;-)
Nevada walk-in outlets do not yet have tickets, because they're stilll being printed. These outlets will receive them in the very near future. Stay tuned for more info. They will have a limited number of $165 level tickets for sale.
The Melting Pot
888 S Virginia St
Red Cat Records
1051 W 4th St
The going rate for online tickets is now $175, $185 and $200.
Tickets have NOT yet been mailed out. We must wait until the mail from points around the world has finally settled into our box. Additionally, however, this year the tickets have been custom designed by members of the Burning Man community and embody this year's theme: The Floating World. They are printed on 100% mixed hemp & post-consumer recycled wood fiber, with soy ink. We are excited about the design and hope you will be too. They are, however, still at the printer's, which is also contributing to the delay in delivering them to you. Please be patient. We expect to begin sending them out starting around Feb 8.
Currently, the online ticket purchase process dictates that tickets must be mailed to the same address as your billing address for your credit card. This is to prevent credit card holders from fraud, and is a standard internet protocol for online purchases. Since our express delivery carrier will not deliver to PO Boxes, this presents and unfortunate problem for those with P.O. boxes who wish to pay by credit card and have tickets delivered.
Your options in this situation are to pay by Money Order/Cashier's Check via mail order, or pick up your tickets at the gates of Black Rock City at Will Call. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for anxious participants.

JRS Seeks: Travel Agent
When our office has the needs of a service agent, we like to try to find a way to look for help within the community first - working with Burners is always a pleasure, whenever we can.
We have ongoing needs of various scope, and would love to find a travel agent among our participants who can help us sort out logistics.

A NIGHT OF BURNING MAN
+ David Vaisbord's JUICY DANGER MEETS BURNING MAN
PLUS: David Vaisbord's JUICY DANGER MEETS BURNING MAN
some random reviewer says: "The Juicy Danger Show is an underground circus act named for its power blend of bursting watermelons and flailing chainsaws. Vaisbord's documentary sketches the juicyness of the performers' bodies, the raw danger of their personas, and drags the audience with them -Tom Comet, a former Jim Rose Sideshow, and Christine Taylor, a Vancouver one-woman carnival- into the grinning anarchy of the Burning Man festival. It's a potent combination, and this video elicits cheers and applause throughout. At Burning Man no one is a spectator; everyone is there to participate and draw their own audience with costumes, crazy campsites, or performances at any time of day or night."
