Unsubscribe info at the bottom (note: please bear with us if your unsub takes a cycle to be resolved. We're updating our support for manual subscription requests!)
We have one quick news item hot off the press: the BRC Census needs your help... and if you live in or near the Bay Area, you can contribute right from your couch.
Dear amazing Burning Man volunteers & future volunteers,
The Census Team is in the process of coordinating a fairly large-scale volunteer effort and we could sure use your help. Please read below and respond to this address if you are interested.
Here's the deal:
During the 2004 event we collected approximately 5000 Black Rock City census forms - an incredible feat in and of itself. Now, we need to get the information on the paper forms entered into our online tool. Ideally, we'd like to have all of them done by February 21, so that they can be included in the 2004 AfterBurn Report.
If we can get 100 volunteers, that means each person would need to enter just 50 forms. At about five minutes per form, that works out to about 4 hours of time over the next month, which is, hopefully, pretty manageable. This can be done in the comfort of your very own home if you like, or come in and do it with us!
Data entry may not be glamorous work, but it is one of the many of ongoing efforts that's important to the Project nonetheless, and it's a great way for you, our community, to get involved!
Here's how you can participate...
- Come work and play with us:
Join us at the Burning Man offices for a work party on Saturday, February 5, from noon until 5:00 (come for the entire time, or just drop by to help for an hour or so).
We have a limited number of computers at the office, so if you have a laptop please bring it with you. You can either jump on our Wifi network or plug into a hub (bring an Ethernet cable if you have one). If you don't have a laptop, come anyway. We can switch off, and have one person read the census answers to another who is entering on the computer (much faster this way). And moral support is always greatly appreciated.
We'll be serving some snacks and drinks, but please feel free to bring along something to share.
- Work from home:
Don't want to wait until February 5 to get started? Would you rather play with our forms at 4 AM wearing just your bunny slippers? Hey, if it works for you, it works for us.
You can come by the Burning Man offices right away and pick up some forms, or one of us would be happy to drop off some for you at your home or office. We want to make this as easy as possible for you, after all.
- Work from work:
Do you sit in front of a computer all day? We promise we won't tell your boss if you enter a few census forms during your lunch break or between projects.
If any or all of the above possibilities appeal to you, drop us an email at this address com and let us know how you'd like to participate. Someone will get back to you with details about the work party or to make pick-up/drop-off arrangements.
Note: To make sure we got this message out to as many folks as we could reach, we opted for this special edition JRS - with 5000 census forms this year (last year there were about 900!) we need as much help as possible to get 'er done! If you're not in the Bay Area, we look forward to sharing the results with you soon...and thank you to everyone who filled out the Census.
Thanks a million!
The 2004 Census Team

YES! YOU *CAN* WRITE TO THE JACKRABBIT! (We love it!)
To submit to the newsletter, mail a concise paragraph to JRS by 2 PM PST on Tuesdays. (We don't post all requests, however.) Please put “POST REQUEST” in the subject line.
Please do not subscribe the Jack Rabbit to mailing lists to let us know about events - our email volume is too enormous to read things that are automatically sent. If you'd like to submit an item to be considered for the next newsletter, please send a blurb to us directly from your address.
For questions: questions
If you are trying to unsub and it doesn't work, please send us an email and give us as much information as possible. Are you sending from a different address? Manual unsubscribe requests may take several issues to be processed, so please be patient.
You'll get an email to which you must respond to complete the request.
