Burning Man Update: The Jack Rabbit Speaks Vol 10, Issue 6 October 26, 2005

If you never met Logan, it's probably because you were talking to Dicky.

Logan was the project manager on the Dicky Box, which you may have seen on the playa this year. Logan's stepped up to the plate for Burning Man this month, in a new capacity with DPW. So, of course, the kids around the office had a sworn duty welcome him the right way -- with a good old-fashioned hazing.

At about 1 PM on Friday, Procheus told Logan he had some paperwork he needed to review with him. He lured him into a window-lined room to sign it. What Logan didn't know is that earlier that morning, the fellas had swapped the lock on the room. In he went, and the door closed behind him. A giant handpainted "LOGAN" sign was hung.

Logan spent 3 long hours in the Logan Box. He was flashed two and a half times. We wrote "This Project Sucks" and "Free Logan" and drew pictures on his glass with a dry erase marker. He didn't get much sleep. We brought him gifts, and water. Dicky dedicated a song he just loves (Dicky, not Logan) and asked us to put it on repeat for him. ("Jesse's Girl", if you wonder.) We finally let him out and shoved a cocktail into his hand late in the afternoon...

(We at the office recommmend that you do as we did when plotting your own office insurgence: wait until the board members go out of town on a work retreat to pull a stunt like this.)

Getting down to brass tacks, it's been a pretty busy, high-energy month around here. Everyone's had a lot to say about the 2005 event, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We Rabbits also send a very earnest thank you to over a hundred readers who took the time to write thoughtful, supportive emails in response to the last JRS. You guys made our week with those.

Soo...there's a festival premiere of a film about you coming up in Hollywood next Friday...dang near everyone in the office here is heading down to LA to catch this big premiere, and we hope we'll see some of you too! (Tickets are available again thanks to being moved to a LARGER room, so see below for details!) We also have a gorgeous story from the playa we wanted to share...new photos from Burning Man, and a bunch of folks looking for footage from their respective projects...

(Oh, and we did carry a bunch of heavy things around the office Friday, too, so it wasn't ALL play. Believe it or not, we're already gearing up for 2006!)

FOUND: TWO TALES OF BURNING SERINDIPITY

Playa energy works in mysterious ways. After spending some time mooping post event, the Jack Rabbit made one random reference to a wedding ring found by someone while mooping the playa. See, it's tradition for "moopers" to compare "ground scores" at the end of each day. The reference date of 1985 was all that was needed for members of tribe.net to point Hoopes towards the Rabbit for info on his lost wedding ring. DPW member, "Red Michelle", had been wearing the ring waiting for the owner to surface. She had planned to scour the ePlaya in hopes of finding the owner, but hadn't been back online yet. The JRS helped the ring and Hoopes reunite. From the sound of his email, Hoopes was VERY happy about the find.

Even more incredible is this story posted on tribe by Astrogirl. It took 5 years after Burning Man for her item to surface, but it did. Even more interesting is that Astrogirl and Hoopes know each other. So, about that "Lost and Found at Burning Man" tribe?

MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE STREAMED

For those who missed the "Burning Man" episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" a few weeks back - here's a link to a streamed copy.

It is, of course, a satire (not filmed at the event, not affiliated with the Org, etc. ) Still, your full deposit refunded if you don't think it's even just a little bit funny.

PHOTOS OF MIRACLE GRO VS CONTESSA SOUGHT

From a participant: "Sunday night after the Temple burned we watched with amazement as Miracle Grow's flower came within a few feet of Contessa's upper deck and focused a spotlight on a gymnast preforming on a bar hanging off of the ships mast..... It brought tears to our eyes as it was an incredibly awesome sight to behold!!! Unfortunately, my camera's battery was dead.... is there any way of posting a request for anyone else who may have seen this breathtaking scene and captured it on camera to share pictures with me? Please email me at lancew82(at)sbcglobal(dot)net and maybe we can trade pictures as I have around 400.

Thanks.......Lance.....see you on the Playa!"

VIDEO OF MOTHTRAP SOUGHT

"Bonefire Bob here. I'm trying to put together some promo material and am in need of any imagery of the Mothtrap I can get. At the opening of the temple we had a really good performance and there were lots of video cams around. Same goes for Sat before the burn we were parked right in front of the Double decker David Best bus. We also performed in front of Illumination Village, at the Angel of Apocalypse, in the "Machine" Fri nite destruction and in Otter Oasis on Sun eve. This will be for our own use only. Oh, I almost forgot the show at SF Decomp.

Thanks, Bonefire Bob - bob(at)bonefire(dot)com"

Please contact josh(at)thedolab(dot)com to work out the details.

Thanks in advance!!!
