BLACK ROCK CITY 2011 PLAN
For your planning pleasure, here is the Black Rock City Plan for 2011.
In 2011, the circular streets are named:
Road circling Center Camp: “Rod's Road” in honor of BRC designer Rod Garrett. (For more information about the evolution of the BRC design, see Rod's Metropol Blog of 2010.
The light blue shaded areas do not specify, but rather approximate where you will find reserved-placement, interactive theme camps. (We’re holding some prime space for the general public there too). Once our event begins, all unclaimed camping space everywhere is available to all.
The city is growing this year. The distance from the inner-most Esplanade street to the Man is 2400 feet. This means all blocks from Esplanade to Graduation are wider between the clock streets. Esplanade to Anniversary Street, curb to curb, is 400 feet deep. Other double-deep blocks are 430 feet deep. The remaining blocks are 200 feet deep.
Sixteen New Streets
By far, the most dramatic change in the plan this year is the addition of sixteen new streets. To ease pedestrian and bicycle movement and access at the back of the city, the new streets are short radials at the fifteen and forty-five clock positions. They begin mid-city at Graduation, and end at the last street, Liminal. Graduation is a wider boulevard starting in 2011, and double-deep blocks sit along Graduation's border.
Public Plazas are returning at Kindergarten and 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00. We are holding most of the camping space around these plazas unreserved and available for the general public to develop and maintain as an experiment in spontaneous urban planning and collaboration.
