From I-80, take U.S. Highway 395 North Exit #15 toward Susanville to reach this shopping hub.

From 395 N, Take the North McCarran Blvd Exit #70 and turn right. The next light is Northtowne and your gateway to Wal-Mart, WinCo Foods and various other shops.

NOTE: This parking lot is a royal pain in the arse. It's extremely busy. It's got a lot of curbs that you must travel around. Patience will be essential to stay sane.

Wally World is the major anchor store. Complete with a tire center and open 24/7, this Wal-Mart does NOT have grocery. You'll have to shop at WinCo Foods next door, instead.

WinCo Foods is also open 24/7. Be prepared: WinCo Foods only takes cash, checks and debit cards. No credit cards are accepted. There is an ATM inside and a credit union in the same shopping center.

WinCo has a great bulk foods section and is so cheap on dry and canned goods, you'll wish you had this store at home. Very little natural or organic foods, and the produce may not be prime quality. You can also fill up your water jugs inside.

The strip off the left of WinCo is comprised of Baskin Robbins, Subway, Super Cuts, Sally Beauty Supply, Round Table Pizza, and a Party City store -- a favorite spot for costuming stuff.

Shell Station is the only fuel at this location, next to Arby's and Wendy's and the Wells Fargo Bank.

If you can leave this parking lot without losing your patience, you may want to go forward at the light. Why? Because there's a Home Depot! The basic construction orange big box store will have what a Burner will need, including some really great hot dogs.

Del Taco, Office Depot and Ross are in the shopping center to the right.

If you are planning to take Pyramid Highway to the playa from here, don't get back on the freeway. Turn east on McCarran Blvd, away from 395. Go a few miles and you'll hit Pyramid Highway. Turn left. Nice little shortcut, huh? Also, you may want to check out what is in the Pyramid hub, while you’re at it?

Black Rock Bicycles

Black Rock Bicycles offers a variety of new and used bikes for rent or purchase that are specifically designed with burners in mind. There are three options to getting your hands one one of these great bikes:

You can either pick up/drop off a bike from their hq just north of Reno, or you can pre-arrange for this to happen in Black Rock City. In these two cases, you will need to contact these fellow burners ASAP at randy (at) blackrockbicycles (dot) com

Black Rock Bicycles will also be cooperating with local Save Mart supermarkets, selling new cruisers and accessories at some of the stores at rock-bottom prices. Check out the Keystone, Plumb, and Prater Save Mart locations for further details. And you can also find Black Rock Bicycles at Prism Magic Clothing (another burner favorite) in the Pyramid shopping hub.

(Note also that Black Rock Bikes will also be taking all of the bikes deposited during the Save Mart drive thru recycling project, donating some to the Kiwanis and Reno Bike Projects, fixing up most to rent for next year’s burn, recycling other parts, and donating part of the proceeds to support local environmental initiatives and charitable causes. For further information and locations on this recycling project, check out the various Save Mart supermarket listings in the Grocery Store category).
